Customer Case Study: Monumental Sports & Entertainment

Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) is the parent company of the NHL Washington Capitals, WNBA Washington Mystics, and the NBA’s Washington Wizards—as well as the owner/operator of the Verizon Center, a state-of-the-art 20,000 seat arena located in the heart of Washington, DC. To keep in touch with its current ticketholders, as well as ticket prospects and corporate and local partnerships, MSE maintains a large database that includes 1.2 million contacts.

In recent years the company started looking at ways to do more with all that data—and quickly faced some challenges. “About three or four years ago we started doing our CRM work out of our ticketing database–which is not what it’s really for,” explains Adam Falkson, MSE Senior Coordinator for Ticketing Analytics. “So we moved to a cloud-based solution, but with a cloud based solution you don’t have a localized database. That made it very hard to do deep dives into querying and report building.”

Falkson and MSE turned to Sesame Software and its Relational Junction product suite to help create an accurate localized version of all that cloud data. “Initially we looked at this as one-way, but we quickly realized the functionality of Relational Junction allowed us to push content back to the cloud–which was wonderful–and quickly began doing a synch in each direction,” Falkson says.

MSE currently has about 150 employees accessing that Cloud data through the front end and. Falkson notes Relational Junction provides him with peace of mind that all that data is replicated both in the cloud and on local servers so that it can be completely recovered in the event of an emergency. “If something goes wrong with the cloud we have it locally or we have a localized record of what the data was at that time,” he says.

Falkson also has nothing but praise for the Sesame Software support team, noting, “They’re always incredibly helpful. When we recently came to them with some system slowness, they were very good and very responsive.”

MSE signed on for another year of Relational Junction and Falkson notes the product itself made that decision easy.“The thing for me is it works,” he adds. “I need to have live data that I can actively query and provide reports to my directors and be confident that the information is right. Relational Junction helps me do that, so I’m very happy with it.”
